An 8-year-old boy who was picked up by an airport scanner while being smuggled into Spain in a suitcase has been reunited by his mother, officials said.
Adou Ouattara was returned to his mom at a youth center in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in North Africa, APTN reported. The boy, who is from Ivory Coast, has been staying there since he was discovered allegedly in a Moroccan woman's suitcase on May 7.
She has been detained, as has Ouattara's father. He denies any wrongdoing and says he believed his son was entering the county using a visa.
APTN reported that Ouattara and his mother were accompanied by lawyer Juan Isidro Fernandez Diaz, who said they had paid the father's bail and hoped he would be released soon.
