Nature documentaries are coming to virtual reality headset near you — with the blessing of one of the biggest names in the industry. Sir David Attenborough, the famous narrator and producer who has been making nature docs for the BBC and others for over 60 years, is partnering with entertainment studio Alchemy VR to produce "a journey from the very beginning of life on planet Earth to the evolution of the world's first predators."

"We're on the brink of a simply enormous change in visual communication," Attenborough is quoted as saying on the Alchemy VR website. The advent of affordable virtual-reality headsets and high-quality interactive VR content is certainly promising, though little has actually been created as yet. Alchemy VR did not indicate when it would be releasing its first "virtual reality narrative experience," or what it will be called, but production is underway. Attenborough is also separately working on a flight-focused documentary called "Conquest of the Skies" that will be filmed and viewable in 3-D.
