Air travelers have spoken: For the seventh year in a row, Travel + Leisure readers have rated Virgin America as the best domestic airline in itsWorld’s Best Awards. The magazine's readers were asked to rate everything from airlines to hotels to cities to cruise lines, and the results were announced on Wednesday.

“Winning this award is one of the highest honors in our industry," said David Cush, Virgin America's president and CEO. "It reflects the opinions of some of the world’s most discerning travelers and shows that seven years after our launch as a new carrier we’re continuing to deliver on our promise of creating a different kind of domestic airline: one that offers both the best customer experience in the skies and the best value.” In response, the Burlingame, California-based airline announced an eight-hour sale, with airfares starting as low as $47. The airline, which launched in 2007, also was ranked the top performing U.S. airline in the 2013 and 2014 national Airline Quality Rating report and has been honored as best U.S. airline for six years in Conde Nast Traveler's Readers' Choice Awards.
