Bausch & Lomb on Thursday asked U.S. retailers to remove its ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution from shelves temporarily.
The company said it would run newspaper ads warning consumers not to use the solution, which has been linked to serious eye infections.
Officials with the company recommended that consumers use another lens care solution while it investigates reports that some ReNu users contracted fungal keratitis, which can lead to permanent vision loss if untreated.
Bausch & Lomb is placing ads in USA Today and regional newspapers on April 14 and April 16 featuring a letter from Bausch & Lomb Chairman and Chief Executive Ron Zarrella.
