KITTERY, Maine - A locally based Coast Guard cutter was mobilized to assist a disabled vessel drifting through 12-foot seas 270 miles off Chatham, Mass., Thursday. The Tahoma was expected to arrive on scene to aid Raymon Colon, owner of the 29-foot sailing vessel the Grail Pilgrin at approximately 9 p.m.

Colon departed Halifax, Nova Scotia, and was headed toward Bermuda, but his boat's engine failed early Thursday morning, according to a press release from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Colon notified the Joint Rescue Coordination Center Halifix, which then contacted the U.S. Coast Guard First District Command Center staff in Boston at approximately 1:45 a.m.

Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., was on standby to assist in the rescue if needed.
