Oregon
Joseph, from $89 per room per night
The Wallowa Lake Lodge is in northeastern Oregon, home to the deepest gorge in America. The town of Joseph, surrounded by the Wallowa Mountains, hosts Alpen Fest during the last week in September. You can hear Swiss music, enjoy custom-made German sausage, beer, and wine, and pick out a piece of local art. Mount Rainier, $495 per person
There are lots of ways to challenge yourself in the Pacific Northwest—take this from REI, for example.
