A 19-year-old student at Middle Tennessee State University has been arrested on terrorism charges after threatening e-mails forced the cancellation of classes.

Murfreesboro Police spokesman Kyle Evans said Justin Davis of Nashville was charged Thursday with an act of terrorism and one count of arson. He was jailed on $500,000 bond and did not yet have a lawyer.

Officials canceled classes for Thursday and Friday after campus police said threatening e-mails suggested "large-scale devastation or destruction."

Police said Davis is cooperating with investigators about the case but no motive has been revealed.

The cancellations came in the middle of midterms at Tennessee's largest undergraduate university, about 30 miles southeast of Nashville.
