It may have sounded like thunder storms rolling in on the east side Saturday but instead it was the booming Milwaukee Air and Water Show.

MILWAUKEE - Things appeared to be looking up on Milwaukee's lakefront Saturday.

"Milwaukee in the summer time is a great place to be," said Craig Anderson. "That's why I moved here."

The air show was in Milwaukee back in 2006 but organizers want to make it an annual event. They're even trying to get the Blue Angles here next year. The event is free to the public with private donations and corporate sponsors making it happen.

"This is a lineup that is unmatched on Milwaukee's lakefront," said organizer Paul Rogers.

"It's got a new start in Milwaukee. It's going to be Milwaukee's best air show for many years to come."

With tens of thousands of people expected to watch this weekend, there's a good chance that will happen, as folks finally have something to cheer about.

"It's so nice in a recession like this to come out and be excited about something," said Ron Edwin. "It's tiring to sit at home and wonder what tomorrow will bring."

And the Anderson family from Whitefish Bay was right in the middle of it all.

"Wow," yelled his wife Kris as fighter jets flew over head.

From jets to acrobatic planes, it was all part of the Milwaukee Air and Water show that runs all weekend near Bradford Beach.

"It's awesome to watch the kids think it's awesome," said Anderson.

Not only was it awesome from the ground for the fans but from the sky for the pilots.

"It's windy and it's cold up there," said Sergeant Reese Pendelton.

Pendleton is a member of the elite U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team. He was handpicked to jump from 12,000 feet this weekend after two years of training.

"It's a great feeling. There's no better day than exiting an air craft especially on a beautiful day like today," he said.
