CHANTILLY, Va., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Rolls-Royce PLC reported Tuesday that it agreed to provide BR715 engines to AirTran Holdings Inc. for six Boeing 717-200s, and will extend the companies' TotalCare agreement to cover AirTran's entire engine fleet.
The aircraft engine maker said AirTran placed firm orders for two new aircraft, boosting its fleet to 87 planes, and engine deliveries for these latest aircraft will begin in 2005. The TotalCare extension raises the value of Rolls-Royce's engine maintenance contract to $1 billion and extends the term through 2023.
Designed for the high-cycle, short-haul market, the BR715 engine features technology to reduce airline's operating costs and minimize effects on the environment.
Rolls-Royce's TotalCare program offers airlines a range of packages, including predictive maintenance tools, engine and aircraft leasing and management, spares provisioning, Internet-based services linking customers and suppliers, and the global network of Rolls-Royce aero-repair and overhaul facilities.
These programs provide customers with predictable engine maintenance costs, transfer engine-related risk to Rolls-Royce, and reduce acquisition costs as well as administrative burden.
