NEW YORK (Reuters) - Dow Corning said it emerges on Tuesday from a Chapter 11 bankruptcy that was prompted by lawsuits filed by patients injured by silicone implants.
The Midland, Michigan-based maker of silicone breast implants and other medical implants using silicone said this month it will being to process and pay the women who elect to settle their claims.
A U.S. bankruptcy court judge in April set June 1 as the effective date for a multi-billion dollar settlement with 360,000 people set to receive checks shortly after that.
Dow Corning is a joint venture of Dow Chemical Co. and Corning Inc. .
