Mercury Computer Systems Inc. said Wednesday it bought Advanced Radio Corp., a maker of radio frequency products, for $7 million.
Mercury, which makes computers that process digital signals such as radar and sonar for the military and medical equipment manufacturers, bought the Reston, Va.-based company by purchasing outstanding stock.
Mercury said Advanced Radio's products will improve its standing in the market for products that target signals intelligence.
"The integrated systems are expected to significantly enhance the ability of reconnaissance platforms to detect and locate modern enemy communications systems," Mercury president and chief executive Jay Bertelli said in a press release.
Advanced Radio's first high-performance receiver product is currently shipping, Mercury said.
Shares of Mercury stock were down 8 cents, or 0.36 percent, to $22.86 in midday trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
