Gohmert logic: We can’t restrict high-capacity gun magazines because gay marriage leads to bestiality

Rep. Gohmert believes that more assault weapons will save lives. Most Americans disagree with him.

The Tea Party rock star who brought us “terror babies” and compared Obamacare to abortion is at it again.

This time, Rep. Louie Gohmert is defending high-capacity gun magazines with a wild slippery slope theory. Gohmert is worried limited ammunition could lead to polygamy, or worse:

“I had this discussion with some wonderful, caring Democrats earlier this week on the issue of, well, they said ‘surely you could agree to limit the number of rounds in a magazine, couldn’t you? How would that be problematic?’ And I pointed out, well, once you make it 10, then why would you draw the line at 10? What’s wrong with nine? Or 11? And the problem is, once you draw that limit, it’s kind of like marriage when you say it’s not a man and a woman anymore. Then why not have three men and one woman? Or four women and one man? Or why not, somebody who has a love for an animal? There is no clear place to draw the line once you eliminate the traditional marriage and it’s the same once you start putting limits on what guns can be used; then it’s just really easy to have laws that make them all illegal.”

From gun control, to gay marriage, to polygamy, to bestiality. Congressman Gohmert’s theory is flat out wrong and makes absolutely no sense.

But this isn’t Gohmert’s first time getting into trouble over the gun control debate. The congressman blamed the Aurora movie theater shooting on a “lack of Judeo-Christian beliefs.” And after the horrific Newtown school shooting, Gohmert said the principal of the school should have had an assault rifle:

“Hearing the heroic stories the principal, lunging trying to protect — Chris, I wish to God she had had an M4 in her office locked up. So, when she heard gunfire she pulls it out and she didn’t have to lunge heroically with nothing in her hands, but she takes him out, takes his head off before he can kill those precious kids.”

Unfortunately for Gohmert, the American people don’t agree with his view on gun control. A new Fox News poll shows 54% of Americans support a ban on high capacity magazines; 51% support an assault weapons ban, and 85% want criminal background checks on all gun buyers.

The fact is Louie Gohmert is wrong on gun control. More assault rifles will not save lives, and I promise, banning high capacity magazines will not lead to bestiality.
