A fake tweet sent Tuesday after the Associated Press Twitter account was hacked sent the Dow Jones Industrial Average into a quick tailspin.

The Dow dropped 143 points at around 1 P.M. EST, going from 14,555 from 14,699, after a fake tweet said explosions had rocked the White House and the president had been hurt

The Dow quickly recovered after the tweet was deemed to be inaccurate.

“All: The main @AP Twitter account has been hacked, The tweets coming out of there are false. We are working to correct the problem,” a tweet from AP later announced.

A group who go by the name Syrian Electronic Army have claimed responsibility for hacking the AP’s account.

White House press secretary Jay Carney began a Tuesday press briefing by saying the president was unharmed.
