The 42nd president, always happy to have an audience, has joined Twitter--for real this time.

Former President Bill Clinton stirred up a storm–and quite a few laughs–online earlier this month, when comedian Stephen Colbert connected him with Twitter under a new handle, @PrezBillyJeff.

For real this time, the former president is embracing the online microblogging platform, now with a handle more fitting for a former leader of the free world: @billclinton.

As of Thursday night, Clinton had over 400,000 followers. He pulled his first tweet as @PrezBillyJeff, conducted with the help of Colbert, onto his new account.

Clinton tweeted up a storm Thursday, with shout-outs to daughter Chelsea and Colbert, as well as Bill Gates, Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics, Sen. John McCain, TV host Ellen DeGeneres and pop star Usher.

@StephenAtHome Just got a call from Chelsea. Ready to start Twitter lessons tonight.— Bill Clinton (@billclinton) April 25, 2013

Excited to join @ChelseaClinton and my good friend @StephenAtHome on Twitter!— Bill Clinton (@billclinton) April 25, 2013

Enjoying @Twitter so far. Where else can you hear from @BillGates @PaulPierce34 @SenJohnMcCain @TheEllenShow @Usher in one day? #thisisgreat— Bill Clinton (@billclinton) April 25, 2013

He also tweeted a picture of the members of one of the most exclusive clubs in the world, taken Thursday at the dedication ceremony for the George W. Bush Presidential Library. All five living presidents gathered to honor the former president.

Congratulations George and Laura on opening @TheBushCenter. Proud Hillary and I could be here. http://t.co/396FW3oPIW— Bill Clinton (@billclinton) April 25, 2013
