A group of 78 Eritreans being deported home from Libya by air on Friday hijacked their plane and diverted it to the Sudanese capital of Khartoum where they surrendered, a senior United Nations official said.
The U.N. refugee agency's regional operations director Jean-Marie Fakhouri said told journalists in Geneva that U.N. officials had been called to the airport after the incident.
"They (the Eritreans) have surrendered," he said.
