Honda Motor Co. Ltd. said Friday it expects to nearly double the hybrid gasoline-electric vehicles sold in the United States next year with the launch of its Accord Hybrid, which will be priced starting at $29,990.

The Accord Hybrid, which according to federal fuel economy ratings will average 37 miles per gallon on the highway and 29 mpg in the city, officially goes on sale on Friday.

The car will cost $3,290 more than a comparably-equipped Accord sedan with an internal combustion engine, Honda said. The prices do not include a delivery fee of $515.

The addition of the Accord Hybrid, the third Honda powered by a gasoline engine and battery pack, will increase Honda’s U.S. hybrid sales to nearly 45,000 next year, Honda said. Through the first 11 months this year, the sales of Honda’s Civic and Insight hybrid models totaled 24,048.

The Accord Hybrid will be equipped with a V-6 engine, leather seats and trim and other features.
