BEIJING — A villager armed with a double-barreled shotgun has killed four people — including two police officers — in eastern China, local police said Tuesday.

The suspect barricaded himself in his home and was later found dead, according to a police statement on China’s Twitter-like service, Weibo.

Authorities identified the attacker as Liu Shuangrui, 55. State media reported that Liu was shot during an exchange with police. It was not immediately clear when the rampage began.

A further three villagers and two police officers were injured in the attack in Xishibao village in Hebei province, officials said.

Gun ownership is highly restricted in China and it was unclear how Liu was in possession of one.
