Embattled Ukrainian Leader Takes Sick Leave Amid Mass Protests

Ukraine's embattled President Viktor Yanukovych announced he was taking sick leave on Thursday, raising questions around who was leading the protest-wracked country.

Meanwhile, protesters rejected a government amnesty offer for some of those arrested in two months of protests sparked by Ukraine's rejection of a European Union deal in favor of closer ties with neighboring Russia.

The opposition sees the arrests during the protests — which may amount to around 330 — as illegitimate.
