Florida Republican congressman Mario Díaz-Balart will be delivering the Spanish-language Republican address that follows President Obama's final State of the Union Address next Tuesday, Jan. 12.

Rep. Díaz-Balart said he is grateful for the opportunity to address the nation.

"We need a president who will unify, not divide; a president who will stand with our allies and stand up to enemies of freedom," said the seven-term congressman.

"House Republicans are committed to putting our country back on a path to prosperity, creating solutions that will bolster the economy, cultivate job growth, and provide for a robust national defense. The American people deserve nothing less," said Díaz-Balart in his statement.

In announcing the selection, House Speaker Paul Ryan said, "Mario Diaz-Balart has long been a tremendous ambassador for communicating conservative principles and bold, pro-growth solutions."
