Spain is certainly home to many colorful festivals, from a giant tomato fight to the eerie procession of the "moss men," and while the battle of "Enfarinats" doesn't draw the crowds of Pamplona, it must rank as one of the strangest, or at least confusing, of Spain's festivals. According to Getty Images, citizens of Ibi--wearing mock military uniforms--celebrate annually with a battle of flour, eggs and firecrackers.
The battle takes place between two groups, a group of married men called 'Els Enfarinats,' who take the control of the village for one day, pronouncing a whole host of ridiculous laws and fining the citizens that infringe them, and another group called 'La Oposicio,' who try to restore order. At the end of the day the money collected from the fines is donated to charitable causes in the village. The origins of the festival remain unknown.
