A man sleeps on a conveyer belt at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on Wednesday morning, as bitterly cold temperatures, high winds and the aftermath of heavy snowfall continue to affect the Northeast.

Almost 1,400 flights coming into or out of the U.S. on Wednesday had been canceled by 4 a.m., on top of 3,000 flights grounded Tuesday.
