A motorist who was severely injured after a crash involving a semi-truck told the flight crew airlifting him to hospital that he'd earlier killed his wife, according to officials.
Police in Carbondale, Colorado, are treating the case as the city’s first homicide since April 2003.
Investigators searched the apartment the driver allegedly cited on Monday afternoon but none of the residents inside were found to have been injured. A woman who lives nearby later discovered a dead body with multiple knife wounds in a different apartment.
The suspect was placed in protective custody while he recovers from his injuries at the hospital. Police have not released the names of the suspect or victim.
