Vice President Joe Biden made a surprise stop at worship services at Emanuel AME church Sunday morning, the Charleston, South Carolina, church where nine people were killed during a Bible study earlier this month.

Biden stopped by the church with his son Hunter Biden.

“We came back because our family wanted to show solidarity with your family and church," Biden said at the service.

Biden also said one of the reasons he went to the worship service was to “draw strength from the church” following the death of his son Beau Biden last month.

He also said he wished he could say more to ease the pain of the families that lost loved ones during the church massacre but the death of his son Beau earlier this month reminded him that there are "no words, only faith."

Biden read a verse from Psalms at the service, saying “I pray families will find refuge in shadows of his wings and I pray love you have shown to them will help mend broken hearts for the families and mine."

But the White House said the Vice President would not be attending the funeral of Charleston shooting victim Rev. DePayne Middleton-Doctor, which was scheduled at Emanuel AME church later Sunday.
