Best Buy announced over the weekend the locations of the stores it plans to close this year as part of a company restricting plan.

In March, the struggling electronics retailer posted a $1.7 billion quarterly loss and said it will shut 50 of its big-box stores. It also said it will cut 400 corporate jobs and trim $800 million in costs.

Best Buy plans to open 100 smaller, more profitable Best Buy Mobile stores.

Seven of the stores are in California, while six are in Illinois and another six are in the company's home state of Minnesota.

“This was not an easy decision to make,” Best Buy said in a statement.

“We chose these stores carefully, and are working to ensure the impact to our employees will be as minimal as possible, while serving all customers in a convenient and satisfying way. But we also recognize the impact this news has on the people who deserve respect for the contributions they have made to our business.”

Shares of Best Buy were down slightly in trading Monday.
