Former Vice President Dick Cheney has returned home following his heart transplant surgery 10 days ago. Cheney’s daughter Liz posted a picture of her father and mother, Lynne, with the simple caption: “Home.”

The 71-year-old was released from Virginia’s Inova Fairfax Hospital on Tuesday. In a statement from the former vice president’s office, he expressed gratitude for the “outstanding care” he received. He also thanked the donor’s family for “this remarkable gift.”

Cheney received the heart from an anonymous donor after being on the wait list for more than 20 months. He had a long  history of heart problems, having suffered the first of five heart attacks at age 37 and his most recent in 2010.

Liz Cheney has been updating her Twitter followers as to her father’s progress. On March 30, she wrote: “VP is doing great. So grateful for prayers and support, and all the cards and letters. Hopefully home soon!”
