While everyone's been getting excited over the Twitter integration found in iOS 5, Facebook may have been working on its own surprise for iPhone users: A brand new photo-sharing app.

TechCrunch reports that its writers have "obtained roughly 50 MB of images and documents outlining" this mystery app:

To be honest, we’re still sorting through all of them. But again, the app looks amazing. We’ve heard that internally it is being called either “Hovertown” or “WithPeople”. And while it looks like a stand-alone app right now, there are also signs that it could be eventually integrated into Facebook’s main iPhone app — as well as the main site.

Either way, based on the images in front of us, the best way to think about it appears to be Path meets Instagram meets Color meets (Path’s new side projectWith — with a few cool twists.  And obviously, it’s built entirely on top of Facebook’s massive social graph.

From these slim details, it seems the Facebook app may be picking and choosing some of the best features from the most popular photo-sharing apps on the market. That sounds like a solid app in theory — and if TechCrunch's assessment is correct, it's "awesome" in reality, too.

We've reached out to Facebook for comment on this "secret" project.
