A giant kite smashed into a crowd of hundreds of spectators at a festival in Japan, local media reported.

Four people were hurt — including one who was seriously injured, according to Nippon TV.

The 1,500-pound structure had been repaired before it was flown over the weekend, according organizers of the event in Higashomi City. However, its supports were found to have been damaged by worms.

Police are investigating the incident.
