BAGHDAD, Iraq – Black-clad gunmen kidnapped Iraq’s deputy justice minister, Abdul Karim Faris, and two of his guards, officials and local reports said Tuesday.
No further information was immediately available, a spokesman for the justice ministry told NBC News.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, according to Reuters.
Last week, gunmen seized 18 Turkish construction workers from a sports stadium they were building in northeastern Baghdad. Iraqi security forces investigating the incident later raided the headquarters of a powerful Iranian-backed Shi'ite militia, but the workers are still missing.
Reuters said Tuesday’s kidnapping was carried out but black-clad gunmen, citing security sources.
