A technical failure caused a British tank to crash into the front lawn of a private home in a residential area in the northern German city of Paderborn on Tuesday. According to local police, "a bolt turned loose on the British driving school tank," which started to lurch off onto the sidewalk and was stopped by a small embankment in the yard.
"We have a large military training area close by, so it is not unusual that tanks can be seen on our streets," police spokesman Michael Biermann told NBC News. Biermann added that accidents with large military vehicles occur rarely and that no-one was hurt in the incident. Police said the accident was not a result of a driving error by the learner on the tank.
