ISTANBUL — A suspect was reportedly detained after what officials described as a "security incident" outside the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul on Friday.
Turkish police sealed off the street outside the building and detained a man for questioning, Reuters cited Turkey’s Dogan News Agency as reporting. One local police official told NBC News on condition of anonymity that authorities searched the suspect's car but found no explosives. A Reuters photo of the scene showed a bomb disposal unit checking a car near the building.
A spokesman at the consulate told NBC News there had been a "security incident" but said that staff had not been evacuated.
"Officials are currently reviewing security measures and monitoring," the spokesman said, adding that a statement would be issued later Friday.
