KABUL, Afghanistan — A suicide bomber attacked police headquarters in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Sunday, officials said, killing one person and injuring six others. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack on the heavily-fortified compound.

Kabul Police Chief Gen. Zaher Zaher - the apparent target of the attack - told reporters at the scene that a suicide bomber in military uniform had detonated explosives just outside of his office, killing his chief of staff. He said security footage would be examined to determine how the bomber could have passed through tight security undetected.
