A U.S. Navy sailor died after falling from a hotel balcony while off duty in Bahrain in the Gulf late Saturday, military officials said.

A U.S. Navy sailor died after falling from a hotel balcony while off duty in Bahrain in the Gulf late Saturday, military officials said.

The sailor, assigned to the destroyer USS Farragut, was “on liberty” in the island nation's capital, Manama, the U.S. 5th Fleet said in a statement.

The ship was docked there as part of a routine port visit.

The death occurred at 10 pm local time (5 pm ET) Saturday.

The ship is part of the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group currently deployed to the U.S.Fifth Fleet in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, the campaign against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
