The White House says that President Barack Obama will meet Pope Francis “at some point in the near future.”

While visiting the Vatican Tuesday, Secretary of State John Kerry indicated that Obama would be making his own trip to the holy city.

"I know that the Holy Father is anticipating the visit of President Obama here, and the president is looking forward to coming here to meet with him,” Kerry said.

A White House official didn’t knock down the idea of a visit soon but said there are no plans to announce yet.

“The President very much looks forward to meeting Pope Francis at some point in the near future but we don't have any specific travel to announce today,” the official said.
