Guinness World Records 2015

TODAY's weatherman Al Roker is attempting to set a new Guinness World record for the longest uninterrupted live weather report. His goal is to report on the weather for 34 hours straight, enough to surpass the current official Guinness World Record of 24 hours. (Norwegian Eli Kari Gjengedal recently completed a 33-hour run, so Al's got to go longer to beat her.) His attempt is being streamed on TODAY.com. If all goes to plan, he'll break the record during Friday morning's TODAY show. It's all for a good cause. Al is asking people to pledge support via his Crowdrise campaign, which benefits our armed forces and United States Service Organizations (USO).

The most simultaneous demi-grand rond de jambe cancan kicks by a single chorus line in 30 seconds is 29 kicks and was achieved by the dancers of Moulin Rouge in France in honor of Guinness World Records Day 2014.

The most people eating breakfast in bed is 388 and was achieved by Pudong Shangri-La, in Shanghai, China, in celebration of Guinness World Records Day 2014.

The farthest basketball shot made backwards is 82 feet 2 inches by Thunder Law of the Harlem Globetrotters at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona, in honor of Guinness World Records Day 2014.

Rodrigo Martin Santos made it into the 2015 Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition for his stellar collection of Tom Raider related memorabilia, which consists of 2,383 separate items. His impressive collection started in 1996 when he was inspired by the creator of Lara Croft, British designer Toby Gard.

Patrick Hadler from Germany has made it into the 2015 Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition for the highest margin of victory against the computer on FIFA World Cup 2014. The teaching assistant from Hannover managed to emulate his countries success at this year’s World Cup by scoring a total of 321 goals without reply to earn a place in the 2015 Gamer’s Edition, out today.

Hecaterina Kinumi Iglesias (aka Kinumi Cati) has made it into the 2015 Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition with two endurance-based records for the longest videogame marathon on Final Fantasy (8 hours 6 minutes on July 28th 2013) and longest videogame marathon on World of Warcraft (29 hours 31 minutes on March 30th 2014).

The largest collection of Moshi Monsters memorabilia belongs to Lucy Neath and consists of 1,914 individual items as of May 20, 2014, in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England

Minecraft enthusiast Martin Fornleitner has made it into the 2015 Guinness World Records 2015 Gamer’s Edition for longest videogame marathon on Minecraft. The Austrian gamer played the craft building game for 24 hours and 10 minutes.

The longest jump by a cat is 6 ft. and was achieved by Alley, owned by Samantha Martin, in Austin, Texas.

Largest electric guitar

The largest playable guitar in the world is 43 ft 7.5 inches tall, 16 ft 5.5 inches wide and weighs 2,000 lb. Modelled on a 1967 Gibson Flying V and built to a scale of 1:12, it was made by students from Conroe Independent School District Academy of Science and Technology, Conroe, Texas, USA at a cost of US$3,000. With construction beginning in October 1999, the instrument was finally played at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion with the opening chord of 'Hard Day's Night'.

California native Nick “The Lick” Stoeberl’s Longest tongue comes in at 3.97 inches from tip to closed lip. The artist and comedian has always known his tongue was large, and he says, “My dad was a huge KISS fan, and may have wanted me to be a rock star. I may have been the answer to his prayer.” He says that the only downside is “that I have to spend longer brushing my tongue in the morning.”

Mama Lou, aka Linsey Lindberg of the USA, used muscle power to squash eight apples in Los Angeles, California, on June 26, 2013. Once an accountant, she quit to be a performer and now blows up and pops hot water bottles and rips telephone directories in half.

The shortest cat is Lilieput, a nine-year-old female munchkin cat, who measured 5.25 in from the floor to the shoulders on July 19, 2013, and is owned by Christel Young (USA) of Napa, California, USA.

In the realm of sports, golfers can be quite particular about their gear. Denmark’s Karsten Maas has taken his love of the game to the extreme with his Longest ‘usable’ golf club. Measuring 14 ft 5 inches long, Maas used his enormous creation to drive a ball a distance of 542 ft 10.16 inches. He’s been golfing since he was 9 and attributes his ability to make and test his club to years of experience using long clubs in shows.

Broc Brown, born April 15, 1997, measured 7 ft 1.5 inches tall in April 2014. A student at Vandercook Lake High School in Jackson, Michigan, Broc was diagnosed with Sotos syndrome (cerebral gigantism). Although he can dunk, he’s too big for basketball, and Nike have supplied him with size 24 athletic shoes—bigger than those worn by Shaquille O’Neal.

Since the age of 8, Californian, Bob Bretall amassed 94,268 unique comic books as of May 1, 2014. Bretall’s collection weighs an estimated 8.3 tons – as much as 118 adult men! The 52-year old has said he will never sell any of his comics, and will “leave that to [his] kids when it becomes their inheritance to do with as they will” — though he hopes they will keep at least a few in remembrance!

The colossal construction built by Beth Johnson from Ohio, USA, measures 11ft 9in inches diameter with a weight of 4,620lb. Beth, who owns her own heating and air-conditioning company, says that she started the build with the simple intention of “creating something better and bigger than anyone else had done before.” The Yo-Yo took a year and a half to complete, and is fully operational. Beth doesn’t regret the time and money spent on the construction stating that “Everyone thought I was crazy but I didn't care. I‘m not a quitter. Anything worth doing, is worth doing right.”

Massachusetts resident Alan Edward Labbe boasts the record for Largest male afro. Labbe’s massive hairstyle measure 5.75 inches in height, 8.5 inches in width, and boasts a circumference of 5 ft .75 inches.
