Fans of the video game series "Dragon Age" can start rejoicing. The upcoming "Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker" — complete with dragons, demons and a healthy amount of animated bloodshed — is hitting theaters this month.
The film is being made by Funimation studios and directed by Fumihiko Sori, the same director behind the visually stunning sci-fi epic "Vexille," one of my personal favorite anime films. Game developer BioWare seems to be making a big push to give their video games the cinematic treatment: There's already a live-action "Dragon Age" series starring Felicia Day, and there are both animated and live-action "Mass Effect" films on the way, too.
"Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker" will center around the character Cassandra, a somewhat rash warrior who finds herself battling against a deadly plot. Much like almost every hero who has become entrenched in a conspiracy, she is accused of treasonous crimes and as a result is hunted by her enemies and also her friends.
"Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker" will be shown in select theaters May 24 in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and will be released May 29 on DVD and Blu-ray.
