DaimlerChrysler AG said Tuesday that it was recalling 131,500 Jeep Grand Cherokee sport utility vehicles because the plastic blades in the engine's cooling fan could separate and cause an injury.
The recall, the second in two days involving the Jeep SUV, involves 2000 and 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokees with 4.0-liter engines. The automaker said if the fan blade separated while the hood was open, the blade could break through a cover and strike a person.
No accidents or injuries have been reported, DaimlerChrysler spokesman Max Gates said.
The automaker noted 163 complaints in a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which had been investigating the defect since July 2005.
DaimlerChrysler plans to notify owners in July, and repairs will be completed at no cost to consumers.
On Monday, the automaker said it was recalling about 111,000 Grand Cherokees from the 2003-2004 model years after receiving reports of 15 injuries caused by overheated front seat warmers.
The automaker received nearly three dozen complaints of the front seat electric heater element overheating or causing a fire.
