Could homework time be more fun on an iPad?   For the first time, digital versions of textbooks for K-12 students will be available for the upcoming school year. While  e-textbooks  won't replace their hardcover versions issued by schools, as they can at the college level, kids will no longer have to lug heavy books to and from school and parents won't have to hear, "I forgot my book."   Kno has partnered with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt to offer digital versions on the Web through any  browser , downloadable books for Windows 7, iPad and Android. Parents can rent books for the full school year at $10 or less.   Along with less to carry, kids can get more out of e-textbooks, such as an automated journal that collects a student's notes for studying, 3D models, video, digital flashcards and "quiz-me" features. Kno says it will be adding a tracking tool for parents to help monitor their kids' progress.   Parents can check with the school administration to find out which textbooks their kids will be using this fall and then go to  Kno.com  for the full e-textbook catalog.
