NTSB Sends Team to Asia for Malaysia Airlines Event

U.S. aviation investigators are headed to Asia to help with the probe into the missing Malaysia Airlines jet, the National Transportation Safety Board said Saturday evening.

Since the Boeing 777 with 239 people aboard remains missing, it has not been decided which country’s aviation safety agency will lead the investigation into what happened to Flight 370. Once the aircraft is found, International Civil Aviation Organization protocols will determine that, according to a statement from the NTSB.

The country that leads the investigation will also release all information on what was described by the NTSB as the “March 8 Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 event.”

But because of lengthy travel time from the United States to Asia, the NTSB sent its team of investigators to the area “so they will be in a position to offer U.S. assistance.” They were accompanied by technical advisers from Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration.
