Yusra Mardini fled Syria with here sister, traveling from city to city in neighboring countries before undertaking a treacherous journey across the sea from Turkey to the Greek island of Lesbos. From there, she eventually made her way to Germany where she continued training as a competitive swimmer. In Rio, the she will also represent those without homes as a member of the Refugee Olympic team.
