Two bodies were recovered Friday night from a park lagoon near where two Milwaukee boys have been missing for almost a month, police said.

The first body found appeared to be that of a child, authorities said.

“It’s very difficult at this early time to make any indication of who the child might be,” Police Chief Nan Hegerty said. “It looks like it has been in the lagoon for quite some time.”

An autopsy was planned for Saturday, she said.

The park and pond had been already been searched in the hunt for Purvis Virginia Parker, 11, and Quadrevion Henning, 12, she said.

The first body was recovered after passersby saw it floating in the water, Hegerty said.

Divers later recovered a second body, police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz said.

The boys were last seen the afternoon of March 19 when they asked Henning’s grandfather if they could play basketball at a nearby park.

Police and volunteers searched the neighborhood, leafletted the city and appealed for information. Police fielded hundreds of calls on a tip line.
