A former bank robber acquitted in March of killing two people has been charged in the strangulation deaths of another couple who were among the five bodies found buried in his backyard.
Hugo Selenski, 32, was brought back to court Friday to be charged in the deaths of a pharmacist and his girlfriend. Police also have charged Selenski’s former friend, Paul Weakley, 36, in the killings.
Both were charged with two counts of criminal homicide and criminal conspiracy to commit criminal homicide for the May 2002 deaths.
Prosecutors believe the pair killed the couple for the pharmacist’s money.
The suspects deposited large amounts of cash afterward, including a $9,900 deposit by Selenski the day after the couple was apparently killed, according to a 40-page police affidavit released Friday.
The document alleges that Weakley misled police — falsely stating that the bodies had first been buried in a wooded area behind Dallas High School — to conceal his role in the crimes.
In March, jurors acquitted Selenski of killing two suspected drug dealers, although they said they thought he was involved in the deaths. Selenski was convicted of abuse of a corpse and is serving a four-year term. The two men’s bodies were burned before they were buried.
Weakley is serving a 10-year federal sentence for a firearms charge.
Selenski served nearly seven years in federal prison for a 1994 bank robbery.
