IIHS performs side crash tests on SUVs

Chrysler
All Chrysler Group vehicles, including the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger, are designed and engineered to perform well in real-world driving situations.

The Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger performed well in the Federal Government’s side impact tests, achieving four stars for driver protection (10 percent or less chance of serious injury) and the maximum five stars for rear passenger protection (5 percent or less chance of serious injury).

The IIHS side impact test uses a different barrier than the does the Federal Government and it represents a much more severe, and infrequent crash.. DaimlerChrysler evaluates vehicle performance in this test, as well as in others, and will carefully evaluate the results as we develop future products.

Ford
Ford Motor Company will provide as standard equipment on the Ford Five Hundred and Mercury Montego sedans, as well as the Freestyle crossover, our industry-first Safety Canopy™ side air bag system by September of this year.  It enhances protection not only in side impact collisions, but also in rollover accidents.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety previously recognized the 2006 model of both sedans with its highest Top Safety Pick-Gold rating after earning the Institute’s highest ratings in front, side, and rear crash tests when equipped with the Safety Canopy™ system.  All three vehicles – as well as side air bag equipped Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis sedans, which IIHS will test later this year – earned the government’s highest available five-star ratings in all crash test categories.

Hyundai
Hyundai is confident that the Azera performs safely for owners, drivers and passengers.  As part of the process for engineering safety into the Azera, more than 300 vehicles were tested during development, including crash testing.  As with every Hyundai, a computer designed passenger compartment structure, energy absorbing front, side and rear structures and impact diffusion load paths forms the basis for passenger protection.  To this, Hyundai adds an 8 airbag system, active head restraints and seatbelt pretensioners.  The result is that both front and rear passengers enjoy a high level of crash protection.

It is important to note that Azera also earned a good overall frontal rating (the highest possible) for frontal crashworthiness. Azera fully complies with the U.S. government’s FMVSS 214 Side Impact Protection requirements.

Toyota
Crash testing is performed on many measures by the government and other independent groups. Toyota conducts ongoing comprehesive crash tests on all of its vehicle models, and example of our ongoing commitment to build safe cars and trucks. Toyota also appreciates the crash test participation of third-party independent groups as it augents our own internal testing. All of Toyota's vehicles meet the safety requirements of the federal government and NHTSA.
