A Scotts Valley woman made up a story claiming that a man on a bicycle stole her winning lottery ticket outside a supermarket earlier this week, officials said. Adriana Bartch, 35, originally told police that a the bicyclist snatched the ticket out of her hand Wednesday evening in the parking lot of a Safeway store on Mount Hermon Road.

Bartch told officers that the Scratcher ticket was worth $5,000. She claimed the ticket was taken just moments after she scratched it.

But police said a follow-up investigation found that Bartch's story was false.

Police said no theft actually occurred. Bartch was arrested on suspicion of filing a false police report.
