A growth removed from White House spokesman Tony Snow's abdomen was found to be cancerous and it appears to have spread to his liver, the White House said Tuesday.

Snow, a colon cancer survivor, joined the White House in April 2006 from Fox News where he was a commentator. He had said last week that initial tests had shown the growth in his lower abdomen to be benign.

Snow will fight it as aggressively as he can, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino told reporters.

This is Snow's second White House stint. He worked previously as chief speechwriter for President George H.W. Bush.
