LOS ANGELES, April 29, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX) (TSX:IMX) announced today the launch of a new screening series in conjunction with the Los Angeles Times' successful Hero Complex. IMAX will serve as the presenting sponsor of the series and, along with collaboration from various studio partners, anticipates multiple screenings throughout 2011. Exclusive to IMAX® theatres, the ongoing series will focus on upcoming tent-pole titles and will launch with an advance screening of Paramount Pictures' and Marvel Entertainment's Thoron May 4. The screenings are targeted at Hero Complex's extensive audience of fanboys and entertainment aficionados.
The award-winning Hero Complex, which debuted on latimes.com in 2008, is now reverse-published in The Times print edition and has grown into the go-to resource for all things geek. Pop culture writer Geoff Boucher has established himself as a highly-regarded expert within the genre community. The Hero Complex continues to assert itself into this niche market, hosting industry events such as convention panels, film festivals and interviews with A-list filmmakers. The site's traffic continues to grow, with over 1.1 million page views and exclusive feature coverage leveraging multiple media platforms.
"The Times and IMAX are both committed to delivering innovative solutions and providing great entertainment experiences for consumers," said The Times Chief Revenue Officer and Executive Vice President, Advertising, John O'Loughlin. "Pairing the 'wow' factor of IMAX theatres with the movies that Hero Complex's sci-fi, comic and superhero-loving fans embrace is sure to create must-attend events."
"The Los Angeles Times has built a great brand and a fantastic following with Hero Complex," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "Our upcoming slate is an exciting one and tailor-made for fanboys and the Hero Complex audience. The screening series will consist of those films which are best presented in the enhanced, immersive format that is The IMAX Experience®."
