Alliant Techsystems Inc. said Wednesday it received a $38 million order from the U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command, Rock Island, Ill., to supply 50-caliber ammunition to the U.S. Department of Defense.

The weapons and space systems company said it will produce the ammunition at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, Mo.

Alliant's Lake City Small Caliber Ammunition is one of three operating units within the company's ammunition and related products group. The group produces more than four billion rounds of ammunition annually, including military small-caliber and medium-caliber, law enforcement, and commercial ammunition.
