Five Shot at Birthday Party in Lowell, Massachusetts: Report

At least five people were shot at a birthday party in Lowell, Massachusetts, on Wednesday night, according to NBC affiliate 7News. One of the victims was a woman who was shot in the chest, the Boston-area station added. Neighbors said they heard what they thought were fireworks until emergency crews showed up.

Local newspaper Lowell Sun reported that at least four people were shot, including the woman and a man who was hit in the leg, who were both taken to hospital. There were no details on the other victims. Police who spoke to 7News said that although nobody was yet in custody, the shooting did not appear to be random. Lowell police told NBC News news that they had no information on the incident which was still being investigated.
