Tourists and locals on the Greek island of Serifos took to the sea for their own safety on Saturday as a wildfire threatened the village of Megalo Livadi.
The fire on Serifos was brought under control on Sunday but major fires continued to rage on the islands of Rhodes and Crete.
The combination of hot, dry weather and high winds make many parts of Greece vulnerable to such fires during the summer months.
