Indiana Dad Kills Young Son, Wounds Wife and Daughter in Murder-Suicide

An Indiana man shot two of his children, killing one, and stabbed his estranged wife before shooting and killing himself, state police said.

An Indiana man shot two of his children Tuesday, killing one of them, and stabbed his estranged wife multiple times before shooting and killing himself, state police said.

Jeremy Gehl, 37, stabbed his wife, Melissa Randolph, 33, multiple times during a fight about 5 p.m. ET in their home in Paoli, in southern Indiana about 30 miles northwest of Louisville, Kentucky, Indiana State Police Sgt. Philip Hensley said in a statement late Tuesday. When the couple's 6-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter came downstairs, Gehl shot them and then himself, Hensley said.

Gehl was dead when police arrived and the children were airlifted to a hospital in Louisville, where the girl died and the boy was listed in critical condition. Randolph was transferred from the hospital where she was initially treated for stab wounds so she could be with her children.

The couple's third child was found unharmed in the arms of his mother, who had run out of the house and collapsed from her wounds. "When one turns on his own children, obviously there's going to be questions and concerns within the community, and we would ask this family and the children specifically be in their thoughts and prayers," Hensley told NBC station WLKY of Louisville.
