Two suburban Boston boys were hospitalized Monday night after a large tree toppled onto them in a scary accident caught on camera.

The tykes — ages 2 and 8 — were playing with other children in a Chelsea, Massachusetts, park just before 7 p.m. when witnesses heard a "cracking sound," local police said in a news release. Then, the towering horse-chestnut tree fell over as everyone scrambled for safety.

In a surveillance video from the scene, children are seen on scooters and tricycles when the tree falls.

The unidentified 2-year-old had a fractured skull, while 8-year-old Diego Ruiz needed three stitches, reported NBC affiliate WHDH. They were both taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

"Everybody was panicking," witness Diamond Gonzalez told the station. "Everybody called the ambulance, the cops. Nobody knew what to do."

The park remained closed until an inspection of the trees were completed, police said.

"I am wishing both of the injured children a speedy recovery and am grateful that others in the park escaped injury," Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes said in a statement.
